"Well Jack, she uh, does seem to take after you," Daniel pointed out as the Gate deactivated behind them. To the look Colonel O'Neill shot him, he held up his hands defensively. "I realize she's not yours yours, but she does have your genes."
((Right, Lee.))

Teal'c looked up as the last of his team emerged from the Chappa'ai. He had been observing the surrounding sand for signs of activity, and had discovered, aside from the signs SG-12 had made while they were there, some heavy prints that could only have been made by someone in armour. Most likely the Goa'uld knew of the gate and had had someone guarding it.
He reported his findings to Colonel O'Neill and waited patiently for him to decide what to do.

Daniel winced. "I was hoping we wouldn't have to deal with them."

Jack scratched his forehead under the bill of his cap. "I'm not surprised. Which way, Teal'c?"
Lee looked up at her father with a curious look. "Are we actually going to engage them? General Hammond said not to."
"We're going to see their numbers, Lee."

"According to General Hammond, Major Gorson had indicated the Goa'uld stronghold was to the north. However these tracks lead to the west and south. It would appear that they are either deserters from the stronghold, or there are other inhabitants on this planet. One of the tracks has the appearance of something, most likely a body, being dragged."
Teal'c indicated an area some yards from the gate where faint tracks could still be picked out. The wind had destroyed much of them, however they were still clear enough for a trained tracker to make out. The Jaffa stood at ease with his hands at his sides, staff weapon pointing towards the ground.
"I believe the best course of action would be to observe the stronghold as instructed by General Hammond. Then if General Hammond agrees, we should track the persons who made these."

Daniel nodded. "Good idea."

"Well, this looks promising," Lee muttered, shaking her head and adjusting her cap. "Desert. Nice." Her voice dripped with sarcasm. She stretched a little and checked that she had a good supply of water in her canteen. "Well," she said finally, looking across the vast expanse of desert.
Jack smirked at her. "Ladies first."
She shot him an annoyed look and took a step away from the Stargate.

Teal'c raised an eyebrow at Daniel Jackson and observed him quietly. Daniel Jackson had been uncharacteristicly silent these past days and it was starting to make the Jaffa slightly worried. He mentally shook his head and pushed the thought aside. He moved away from the tracks and started in the direction of the stronghold.

Daniel was beginning to worry about the revengeful that ran in Jack's blood and -- by proxy -- Lee's as well. After Skaara's death, Jack's eyes had held a sharp, dangerous look, as if he had lost his mind. Daniel was beginning to notice the same recklessness in Lee. Shaking his head, he hurried after Lee and Jack, muttering, "Don't let them do anything stupid."

Teal'c was scanning the area from atop a dune. He could see something to the north that looked like trees, but he could not be sure. The Jaffa remained unmoved by the sand blowing in his face or the unevenness of his footing. He scanned the area again to be sure he had missed nothing. It was then that he spotted it. Dark specs moved against the yellow sand in the distance. He turned and called out.
"O'Neill!"

Jack looked back from where he was wading through the sand for a vantage point. "What?" It was then that he sunk into the sand, tumbling back down the down a little ways. "Aww..... crap." Jack rolled onto his stomach and shimmied back up to the top of the dune to look over.
Lee perched quite happily on her bum in the same general area as Teal'c, her binoculars up and scanning the ridge across from her. Being in a lower position than the Jaffa, she could see more that was closer to the ground, and she watched the black specs become ants as they walked.

"What is our course of action, O'Neill?"
Teal'c gazed at Jack expectantly. He carefully kept his staff weapon in hand and at the ready in case it came down to a fight.

Jack weighed options in his mind. Instincts told him to take aim and fire, but common sense said wait and see if they'd been spotted. Glancing at Lee and then Daniel, he finally answered Teal'c, "Hang back. See if they're hostile."
"Aren't they always?" Lee muttered and crawled over the side of the dune again.
