The brunette carefully pushed herself onto her knees in the sand, shaking her head and coughing sand from her lungs. May had barely escaped Apophis, and she was glad to have gotten free. However, it left her one place: up the creek without a paddle. May rose to her feet and started walking.
/Selket,/ she asked her Tok'ra symbiote, /where are we?/
\I have the same amount of certainty as you do, May,\ was the reply inside her head.
May repressed a shudder and swallowed. She hoped to find water soon before she dehydrated.

Raven gazed out the window at the expanse of desert that stretched on before her. It was highly beneath her to be on such a lowly and uninteresting planet, however her previous domain had been destroyed by a dying sun. Trust her incompetent First Prime to choose the one system in the galaxy that had an unstable star as it's center as their base of operations.
She sighed and glared at the offending sand. As soon as he was done setting up the camps, she was going to dispose of the fool who called himself First Prime, and promote one of the younger, smarter Jaffa. At least this planet was not completely barren. There were patches of jungle at each of the poles, which was where the transport ship was taking her and a contingent of Jaffa, so they could explore and be sure the planet was as deserted as it seemed.
//Still brooding over the loss of our previous base?//
//Yes.// The one word was hissed with much anger and frustraition.
//Well, you shouldn't be. We have better things to think about than that waste pool that we called home for three sun cycles. We should be worrying about that Ha'tak our scanners detected.//
//Nonsense. The scanners indicated that the Ha'tak was leaving this system. Kash'nar is standing by. If anything comes within this system, we will know.//
//That is not what worries me. If another System Lord knows where this planet is, then they may come back. If they come back, then we will be discovered.//
Raven smirked at her host's words and turned away from the window.
//No one can withstand the might of my army.//
//Big words. Whether they are true remains to be seen.//
The Goa'uld scowled and was about to tear into her host when the First Prime entered the room. He knelt briefly and bowed his head in respect before getting to his feet and facing his irrate master.
"My Lord, our scanners have detected a life sign located in the desert. It appears to be a single being. What do you wish us to do?"
Raven stared at the First Prime in contempt. She really needed to replace him. He was more brainless than an Agnorfian sphinxen. And that was saying something.
"Land the ship and bring them to us."

"Whoa!" May exclaimed as the ship flew over her head. "That's not good!" She took off for the safety of an oasis, sand spraying along behind her. However, the wind kicked up by the descending ship caused a slight sandstorm, enough to block May's vision.
/Selket, do you know who this is?/
\Hardly. I can't tell one from the other by their ship.\
May coughed, covering her mouth and nose with her torn sleeve. /Looks like we're about to be picked up whether we like it or not./

The transport Al'kesh touched down onto the desert sands with a light shudder, sending waves of sand billowing away from it. Raven tapped a hand against her leather clad thigh impatiently as the door slowly lowered, and her Jaffa exited before her to secure the area. Once the First Prime gave the all clear, Raven stepped down the ramp and scowled as sand immediately blew into her eyes. She blinked it away and gestured for three of the Jaffa to continue on to the dark shape laying in the sand several yards away.

May coughed up more sand as she helplessly watched the Jaffa advance. She had no way to defend herself now; all her weapons had been stripped from her by Apophis' Jaffa after her "death". She held up her hand as a sign she meant no harm.

Raven watched impassively as her Jaffa approached the shape laying in the sand. If the planet were populated by an intelligent species, they would have to be evaluated and accessed to be sure they were not a threat. Perhaps if they were advanced enough, they would make good allies. If they were primitives, then they could easily be disposed of. //It is that way of thinking that got us in trouble all those years ago, back when we were newly blended. If you had but given the Catrians a chance to prove themselves as being worthy of bowing before us, then they would not have been forced to blow up our Ha'tak, and we would not have been forced to flee lest said "primitives" kill all of our Jaffa with their "primitive" laser weapons.//Raven scowled and huffed in annoyance. //That entire affair was your fault. If you had but chosen to submit to me like a normal host, then I would not have been so disoriented as to miss the signs that they were not so primitive as their simple way of living implied.// Inside Raven's head, Trin made a rude noise. //Oleaphant dung! If it were not for me, you would still be in the hands of the Tok'ra! And don't forget who it was that gave you the idea to make everyone think you were dead. If I hadn't, then we would be dead for real. Every Lord in the system would have been on us in mere seconds had they known we had survived the explosion and our forces weakened. You have so many enemies that they all could easily obliterate us, even with our army as it is now.//Silence ringed in Raven's head as she suppressed Trin. Her host was right, and she hated it. A host was supposed to be silent, weak, and submissive to their master, yet Trin refused to give up her own mind and body. Eventually Raven had given up on trying to take over completely, knowing an impossible task when she saw one. She was glad. The girl had proved invaluable to Raven and her plans. And if Raven had to give up some control in order to keep Trin happy and semi-cooperative, then so be it. Getting fed up with waiting for the Jaffa to bring the person to her, Raven marched forward, ignoring the First Prime as he stammered at her that it might be dangerous. As she approached her Jaffa she reluctantly gave into Trin's needling demands to be set free (which were 'voiced' in the shape of a pounding headache), and let her have back her mental voice. "Jaffa! Kree hol mel!" The Jaffa stepped back and bowed respectively, though Raven was satisfied to see that they kept their staff weapons aimed firmly at the stranger. Raven turned her attention to the girl, for that is what the shape was. "Tak satak Raven. Who are you and what are you doing here? Speak!" May was fluent in Goa'uld by now and replied to the demand without reverence to the Goa'uld system lord. "Tal'mac May. If you'd call off your Jaffa, I'll speak more freely."

Raven eyed this "May" in disbelief. Such disrespect would not go unpunished!
"You dare defy your god?!"
She was about to order her Jaffa to capture and torture the girl for her isolence, but Trin stepped in abruptly, startling Raven enough in its force for Trin to grab control of her body.
"Jaffa, Kree. Shal'kek."
The Jaffa hesitated fractionally as they noticed it was not Raven who spoke. But with a commanding nod from Trin, they bowed respectively and retreated to several feet away, keeping alert for any danger to their god, but lowering their staff weapons.
"Tal'mac Trin. The Jaffa are called off. Now, what is your business here?"

"It's funny," May said thoughtfully. "Both my sister and I were atheists. Anyway, it's nice to meet you, Trin. I was one of Apophis' entourage until I played possum here, where your host found me." She sighed. "I have no alliegence, no affiliation to speak of, no home. Do with me as you will. My sister and my parents are dead, and my symbiote has no affiliation either. We would be worthless to you and your Goa'uld."
\May, you're returning to manic depression,\ warned Selket, sensing her host's distress and seeing her memories that haunted her.

Trin could not help the flash of amusement that went through her. It was obvious that this host was new to the world of the Goa'uld. Mistaking her, Trin, as the Goa'uld and Raven as the host was a mistake that not many would live to regret had Raven been able to wrestle control back at that moment. The trick of suppressing the host was not a one way street. A small smirk flitted across her face at that thought, despite the pounding headache she was experiancing. She decided not to enlighten May about her mistake. The fewer who knew about Raven and Trin's odd relationship, the better.
"You speak too plainly to be one of ours. The decision is not solely mine to make as to what to do with you. Before any decision is reached, I wish to speak with your symbiote."

"As you wish." May's eyes flashed.
"I am Selket," the Goa'uld said, tilting her head. "You wished to speak with me?"

"Indeed."
Trin eyed Selket, not speaking for several tense moments. She paced back and forth, hands resting casually behind her back.
"I wish to know why you and your host are here, on this planet, in the middle of a desert, with no supplies, and no others in sight. I find it extremely odd.... Are you Tok'ra, or Shol'va?"
She paused and looked directly into Selket's eyes, silently willing the symbiote to speed things along. If she did not release Raven soon, her "roommate" would be very, very, very unhappy with her.

"Shol'va," Selket answered without hesitation. "I have no shame for it. Yes, I ran from Apophis and fooled him into believing May and I had died in combat. He is a fool, a weak Goa'uld." She crossed her arms, defiant.

At the mention of Apophis, Trin could feel Raven's immediate reaction, as the worst of her headache faded away almost instantly, and the constant buzz in the back of her mind that was her symbiote quieted down. Raven and Trin both held personal grudges against this particular System Lord. To find someone who had recently gone against him was a treat. Perhaps this Selket could be of some use to them.
Trin eyed the girl carefully for several moments, weighing the pros and cons of various decisions. Finally she spoke.
"Apophis? How... interesting.... You will accompany us."
It was not a question, and Trin could feel Raven's approval as she turned and ordered her First Prime to ready the Al'kesh to continue on their way. She then turned to the Jaffa waiting near by, and motioned towards Selket.
"Bring them."

Selket slunk back into May's mind, and the human girl blinked a few times. That was too easy..... Nonetheless, she was alive and for that she was glad. Giving a warning glare to the Jaffa and taking a step ahead of him, May followed the Goa'uld back to the ship with the sole purpose of escaping the heat and getting a drink of water.
She eyed the MIA System Lord and rifled through the combined knowledge of herself and her symbiote, but she remembered nothing about a Goa'uld called Raven. Except the fact that she was supposed to have been dead.
"But how's that possible?" she muttered to herself. "It may have been a sarcophogus, but I sense it wasn't that." She gave a shrug and went on, "Had the other System Lords known, they would have come after her. There's no honor among thieves, or Goa'uld for that matter. So -- Hey!" she exclaimed as one of the Jaffa jabbed her in the back to make her walk faster. "Watch it with that thing!" She scampered ahead and looked at Raven.
"Aren't you supposed to be dead?" she asked.
